Briefing

About Necesse server hosting

Necesse is a sandbox survival and base-building RPG set in an infinite, procedurally generated world: you recruit settlers, explore, and fight monsters and bosses. Steam lists Necesse's dedicated servers as the way to host large groups, and the wiki's launch prompt accepts 1 to 250 player slots. EZ Game Host plans cover 10 players on Basic, 25 on Standard and 50 on Pro.

The Necesse Dedicated Server is its own Steam app, installed with SteamCMD and an anonymous login. It listens on one UDP port, 14159 by default, and takes its settings from launch parameters such as -world, -slots, -password and -owner, or from server.cfg. Players start with User permissions, and the owner can promote them to Moderator, Admin or Owner with /permissions.

Worlds are saved as a zip file named after the world, and the server does not save when it is killed, so it should be stopped from the console. The developer publishes no RAM or CPU figure for the server. On EZ Game Host, a saved world survives a restart and a backup restore.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my existing Necesse world?
Yes. Necesse saves each world as a zip file named after the world. Upload it to the saves folder through the file manager, then set the same world name at checkout. You upload it yourself, we do not move saves for you.
Does my world survive a restart?
Yes. In our own testing, a saved Necesse world came back after a restart, and a world restored from a backup matched the one we backed up. Each plan has 3 backup slots.
What can I set when I order?
Your world name, your maximum player slots, and an optional server password. The world name takes letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, up to 20 characters. The password uses the same characters, up to 30.
How do I make myself owner or promote friends?
Necesse has four permission levels: User, Moderator, Admin and Owner. Use the server console in the panel to run /permissions set with a player name and a level. Everyone who joins starts as a User.
Which plan fits my group?
Plans are sized by player slots: Basic has 10, Standard 25 and Pro 50. Pick the one with room for your settlement's regulars. The developer publishes no server RAM figure, so we do not promise how a world performs at any size.
What port does a Necesse server use?
UDP 14159 by default. You can change it with the -port parameter, and then you open the new port instead.
How do I become the owner of my Necesse server?
Launch the server with -owner and your player name, and you get owner permissions when you join. From there, /permissions set promotes other players to Moderator, Admin or Owner. Everyone else starts as a User.
How much RAM does a Necesse server need?
The developer does not publish a figure for the server. The Steam page lists game client requirements of 4 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended, which are not server numbers. EZ Game Host plans run from Basic (4GB, 10 players) to Standard (8GB, 25 players) and Pro (16GB, 50 players).
