What RLCraft asks of a server.

Choose a plan and RLCraft is already selected at checkout. We install it with the right loader and Java version, so you skip the server files.

Command blocks switched on

RLCraft's authors say some structures won't spawn their villagers correctly unless command blocks are enabled. Set enable-command-block=true in server.properties before anyone explores.

Mobs at every turn

Lycanite's Mobs, Infernal Mobs and Ice and Fire fill every biome, so the server spends much of its tick on entities. That single-thread load is why we host on fast Ryzen cores.

Old Minecraft, old Java

Minecraft 1.12.2 needs Java 8, and it won't start on a modern Java version. We read the pack's version and provision the matching runtime, so there is nothing to switch.

A world worth keeping

Losing a fight is part of RLCraft, but losing the world to a bad update isn't. Every plan includes 3 backup slots, so you can save the world before changing anything.

Briefing

About RLCraft server hosting

RLCraft is a hardcore overhaul of Minecraft 1.12.2. It adds a thirst bar, temperature that shifts with season and biome, healing that comes from salves and bandages rather than food, and skill requirements that gate items behind the Level Up! tree. Biome-specific mobs, randomized dungeons, a 1% nightly chance of a Bloodmoon and over 340 optional quests fill out the world.

Running it means Forge on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Java 8. The latest release, v2.9.3, dates from June 2023, so the version your group targets is stable. The authors recommend 3 to 4 GB of RAM for each player's client, which the launcher does not set by default, and they require command blocks on the server.

EZ Game Host installs the latest RLCraft release when your server is created and provisions Java 8 for it. Standard (8GB, 2 threads) is our starting point for a small group, and Pro (16GB, 4 threads) gives a larger group room as mobs and explored chunks pile up.

Setup

How to set up an RLCraft dedicated server

You can run the server yourself or let EZ Game Host run it for you. Here is what each path involves.

With EZ Game Host

  1. Choose RLCraft and a plan sized for your group.
  2. Name your server and pick its game options and region at checkout.
  3. Pay, and the server deploys automatically with backups switched on.
  4. Share the server address with friends and manage everything from the panel.
Read the getting started guide

Self-hosting on your own machine

  1. Install Java 8, since Minecraft 1.12.2 won't run on the versions most systems have today.
  2. Download the RLCraft server pack from the Files tab on CurseForge and extract it into its own folder.
  3. Run the Forge server once, then set eula=true in eula.txt.
  4. Set enable-command-block=true in server.properties so structures generate with their villagers.
  5. Forward TCP 25565 on your router to the server PC and share your public IP.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I install RLCraft on my server?
Choose a plan on this page and checkout opens with RLCraft already selected. We install the latest release when the server is created, along with the right loader and Java version. Large packs take longer to install than a vanilla server.
How much RAM does RLCraft need on a server?
The authors publish client RAM only (3 to 4 GB per player), not a server figure. Hosting guides cluster around 6 to 8 GB, so we suggest Standard's 8GB for a small group and Pro for a bigger one. Watch memory and TPS once people are playing, then adjust.
Do I have to enable command blocks for RLCraft?
Yes. The authors say server owners must enable command blocks, or some structures won't generate correctly with their villagers. Open server.properties in your panel, set enable-command-block=true and restart before players explore too far.
Why does RLCraft use such an old Minecraft version?
RLCraft is built on Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2 and stays there. Players need the same pack version as the server, launched from a client with 3 to 4 GB allocated rather than the 1 GB default.
Do my friends need to install RLCraft?
Yes. Everyone needs the same RLCraft version as the server, because the pack adds content to the game. The easiest way is the CurseForge app. Match versions after every update, or players won't be able to join.
